The North East Governors Forum (NEGF) said it is considering the establishment of an independent power generation company to cater for the electricity needs of people in the region.

NEGF chairman and Governor of Borno State Babagana Umara Zulum revealed this at the opening session of the forum’s 8th meeting in Maiduguri, the state capital.

He added that the forum is also considering the establishment of a railway transportation system to link states in the region for easy movement of goods and services.

“Let me draw your attention to the recent amendment to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended which saw to the removal of power generation and railway transportation from exclusive list to concurrent list.

“It is therefore important for us in the North East to partner towards an independent power supply and rail transportation,” he said.

NEGF is a platform where challenges affecting the region are discussed.

The last meeting of the forum was held last year in Gombe State.

The 8th meeting is attended by the governors of Adamawa, Borno, Bauchi, and Yobe while governors of Taraba and Gombe are represented by their deputies.
